Instant online transaction provider WebMoney was launched in 1988.
WebMoney users can register a purse that determines the number of their rights within the system. Each purse has a unique ID number. Purses vary depending on the currency: bank checks for euros and Russian rubles, goods certificates for US dollars, bank account claims for UAH, prepaid transfers for Vietnamese dongs and receipts for gold. Users can fund their purses or withdraw from their balance, but actual money transfers are not supported – all money is stored in the form of Webmoney Title Units.
After signing the user agreement and getting a WebMoney passport, users can create an unlimited number of purses, all of which combined make up one depository with one ID number. The range of available tools to perform financial operations is determined by the level of the user’s account: “keeper classic” for Windows doesn’t require any internet access; “keeper light” is a browser app with a secure connection to an individual certificate; there are also “keeper mini”, ‘keeper Mobile” and a built-in version for social networks.
